A spiraling football generates lift with no wings, and has a nearly perfect laminar flow. Combining an internal rotating impeller sucking air in from a front port and blowing the compressed air over a counter rotating hull would supply inertial stability. Vortexed compressed air would nozzle from a Dyson aperture over the spinning hull from the front. The low pressure would propel the football shaped craft foward. Air sucked in from the front would be channeled around and vortex backwards over the hull from a rim nozzle in close adjacency to the intake port at the very front of the craft. These activatable surface line elevations can be produced by piezoelectric (pyroelectric) foils made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) applied to the surface of the cylinder as surface line strips or lamellae.
This inventer molds the contours of the Magnus cylinder with shape changing surfaces. These small. Moving parts permit the Magnus cylinder to react like variable pitch propellers. A skin coated with piezo chips would allow shape shifting capability.

Thanks to Peter we can conceive of a ring composed of shape shifting piezo electric material. A piezo strip would greatly increase the wind generation output of the cycloidal wing. A roller motion would increase the lift like the fabric job. We can program piezo arrays to "Screw" around the ring!
3 piezo elements under a stretching fabric would be enough to control the ring. A dozen or more perhaps could be programed to produce a spiraling effect on the surface of an elastic wing?
Elon Musk could cover his rocket with a piezo ceramic heat shield material that could generate lift with a spiraling Magnus wing program!
The composites operate at 1000 degrees centigrade. Rentry heat can be double that so it would need to cool down before it would work on the way back down. It would help generate lift on launch.
Baked over a mesh of electrodes the ceramic composite would generate power from the heat of rentry.

For wind force conversion modification ?
One can see from this article that a piezo matrix works well as a wing shaper material : The idea would be to program the piezo matrix to roll spirals around the cylinder.
This may have real value at this point. Picture hexagonal heat shield ceramic tiles mounted on simple piezo benders.
Intelligent control can orchestrate a spiral lift pattern by flapping them in programed sequence. Musk could remove the fins and control the rocket with the tiny gimbaled heat shield fins. The piezo actuators can withstand the high heat behind the shield.

Here's a sketch for a twin rubber band model that mounts both counter wound bands in the middle : Positioning the cylinder band grommet aft of the the collar bearing by braces gives the rubber band a secure place to anchor and spin.
The tube through which the rubber band passes mounts to the inside rim of the frame tube at the rear. The inside of the collar bearing mounts on the tube.
It would be fun to 3D print this twin rubber band model.
Attaching a cycloidal ring wing around the blade ends of the rear propeller would quadruple the lift of the the coaxial propellers!
The difference between blade spacing and blade pitch angle is critical. The Cyclo rotor shell is not a propeller duct but prop pitch and spacing remain critical.
This kind of coaxial gear can run the counter spinning rotor wing with one rubber band : The rear prop should have a deeper pitch to power the rotor wing. The front prop can help power the rotor wing with it's exhaust.
Lift is a factor of cubic meters of air over square meters of wing area.

Removing the top and bottom of the Pepsi can but leaving a little bit on each end to support the rubber band and propeller would improve the flight distance and speed. Take note of the spiral twist in the fins.
Nesting the propeller by ducting it inside the rim of the cycloidal wing would help. Simply recessing a stick frame inside the can and using a smaller propeller or moving to an Oatmeal container would work!
This ingenious swivel gear pearl is the "Gimmick" pictured below. Inserting a craft stick between slits in the sides of a plastic bottle would anchor the propeller inside the rim to produce a ducted thrust vortex. The pearl allows the rubber band to counter rotate the cycloidal wing while allowing the bearing to spin the propeller too. A thin dowel can hold the rubber band to the back.
Sodhart glues the soda straw to the top of the soda can. It glues to the craft stick the same way. The pearl acts as a friction gear set between two short lengths of plastic soda straw! This is a master stroke of gimmickery! The pearl ball is actually standing still while both sides are rotating in opposition. A quick and dirty Barrel Gear! The problem with the Pepsi can is that the spiraling fins are catching a reverse back wash from the propeller. Minimized drag and Máximum vortex thrust achieved when channeled through the center!
This is a "Cyclo Gyro" not a helicopter. We can fashion a couple of cool spiral fins cut from a second bottle. This experimental design will fly ten times better with the propeller inside the rim of the cycloidal gyro wing.

Replacing the swivel with a counter rotating barrel gear would allow the rubber band to power both the cone and the propeller. The 3 blade propeller would be connected to a wire that passes through holes in the opposite facing gears and the craft stick frame. The top gear would attach to the propeller and the bottom one to the craft stick and the cone. The loose end of the rubber band would connect to a dowel in the rear.
This counter rotating assembly has a hollow tube that can house a rubber band! A 3D print job is begging.
This part is all we need! It can attach at the collars to the propeller and cone cross strut.
4 plastic miter gears and a PVC cross tee can combine to make a counter rotating gear assembly. Two caps can hold the side gears in place!

These face and barrel gears are at 90 degrees and seat with no frame 🌹One face gear on the cone frame and a second behind the 3 blade propeller would compress the two barrel gears with the rubber band pressure and keep them in place.
The barrel gears are "Free Riding"!The barrel gears are pulled toward the center and the block pushs them off. We should be able to build a working model from toy store parts now.
This ebay gear package is under $4.00 from China, and includes a 3 blade propeller the 2 face gears and 2 barrel gears.
The pale Green face gear on top can attach directly to the back of the propeller. The bottom yellow side to the cone mount. Pressure from the elastic band will keep the barrel gears fixed in position. We may need to widen the center holes in the face gears with a drill. This design could set a distance record fror a wind up rubber band toy aircraft.

The cone can be enlarged in diameter to a ring with a slender tube trailing behind for the rubber band.
