Flying this electric aircraft from broadcast coils over Hi-voltage towers would work even better!
Look at the field layout of the transmission line between Sacramento and Bakersfield. Straight shot. The aircraft can drop the charge wire after takeoff and sustain economical cruise speed from the Hi voltage broad cast tower power.
This aircraft could run practically free if it skimmed the broadcast coils and collected the BEMF. The colliding magnetic fields would regenerate all the power.
A "Pancake Wing" design can couple with gimbled broadcasting antennas that track the broad underside of the pancake receiver aircraft.

@Stivip,
Thanks for the cartoon. The aircraft with the ground wire requires greater power for take off then cruise. The broadcast towers featured in the video below could sustain the aircraft at cruise speed with much less input. It would help to drop the wire and skip over broadcast towers that perched on Hi Voltage ones.
