Hi ALL,
welcome to the new overunity.com forum website !
I have choosen to use Simplemachines.org forum software,
cause it has some great advantages versus other packages !
:D
One can use mobile WAP and I-Mode phones to access this forum board !
So you can check and post over here also, if you are on the road !
Also you can add attachments to your postings, so you can upload
pictures, GIF, JPG, PNG and movies too ! Also ZIP and RAR archive Files, DOC and PDF Files,
AVI, QT, MOV, MPEG, MPG, WMV are accepted to upload.
The attachment should be smaller than 7.8 MBytes.
And only 1 attachment per posting is allowed.
I hope you all like this board now better than the Yahoogroups.
If you have some suggestions for a few more categories, please post this
inside the help group at the buttom.
Please register over here with username and password.
Then you can immediately log in and also read and post messages !
Many thanks.
Regards, Stefan Hartmann. ( moderator)
Hi! Steven,
hay! so far this looks good. I have been leaning away from Yahoo groups quite a bit lately as they are simply getting to communicative about unrelated things.
By breaking down the catagories as you have done here will save a lot of time and hopefully stay on subject.
Wheres the spell check?
Ralph lortie
Hi Stefan,
Thank goodness, no more ads!
My name is Jim. I'm from Michigan, USA.
I'm here giving the new site a test drive.
Jim_Mich
Okay, guys,
this forum has lots of bandwidth and space !
So use it for all your uploads and ideas with pictures and movies too !
:P
Regards, Stefan.
hallo stefan,
do I be stupid, but I can not find how to post messages. It looks good !!
greetings
walt
Walter,
you must login as a member and then go to the category you want to
post in and then click onto NEW TOPIC
and you can post then.
Then Click onto Additional Options, if you want to attach a picture
from your harddrive.
It will be uploaded during the posting.
Don?t go to "Preview", if you upload a picture with the post,
otherwise you have to reattach it, cause there is still
a bug in the forum software, I have read.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Stefan.
Hi Stefan,
This forum seems to be quite a powerful tool... :o
But we will all have to get used to its functions slowly, I guess.
Will you take action against people bickering and doing flame wars and wasting other peoples time and patience?
By the way: Walt you can turn on quick posting under Layout and preferences in your Profile Menu. Then you can quickly type in a follow up reply under every topic.
Regards,
Jivan
thanks guys
greetings

Hi Norbert,
yes, login here and then click inside the upper
USER INFO Box:
Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.
Hope this helps.
Or activate the email notification function inside your profile !
Regards, Stefan.
Current Topic Notifications
You are not currently receiving any notifications from topics.
To receive notifications from a topic, click the "notify" button while viewing it.
Current Board Notifications
You aren't receiving notifications on any boards right now.
To request notifications from a specific board, click the "notify" button in the index of that board.
I have change my personel profile as described from you but no mail is comming even there are new postings. Can it be that mails are only send when there ist an answer of my owne postings?
MfG
Norbert

I have decided to take part in your group because the topic "overunity"
is the main along all my life.
In www.george-ryazanov.com I describe the general method of restoration the unity of any context.Any step in this direction generate wonderful new apparates.
Those apparates are simple and unexpensive but my description of their theory is practically incomprehensible. Now I am rewriting all that but it would need much time.
George
Previously, two clicks, sometimes three would get the digests and all the posts. Now, the click count is astronomical. We don't all have broadband, and some broadband is disappointing.
Is there no way to get a daily digest sent to those who want it?
Paul.
Paul,
I'm using Internet Explorer. To reduce the number of clicks I use this link (saved as a favorite)... http://overunity.com/index.php?action=unread
After the window loads, I right click on a link then press 'n' to open it in a new window. After reading, I close that window and the first window is still be open. I right click again, etc...
Enjoy,
Jim

I click that link and I don't get new posts.
Every click involves a return to base to collect a payload of maybe 100 bytes of useful data. This
return to the server can take (using dial up and average line) 30 seconds. One day the sun will rise on
the day when communications become as good as they were in the days of 300 baud modems
and point to point bulletin boards.
I doubt that we will see that day.
Paul.
I`m using FireFox, is there a way to disable or turn off the background image?
Its a bit "in your face" for my taste...
Or, recolour it to a more muted colour at least?
Thanks.

Use Adblock Plus. I had to disable the background image also as it greatly slows down the ability to scroll. Sorry, I hate useless, unnecessary bloatware!
Sometimes "less is more". Wish this would apply to this forum and all the fancy scripts and images running in the background which are undermining a clean simple user experience.

I`m already using NoScript to block Java and other things here... :)
It's sad that Stefan does these things to begin with. Instead of making the forum easier to read and more accessible to everyone, he turns around and makes it even worse than it was before.
I loath the old forum now...
Please let me know which CPU speed you use, that causes you trouble surfing the Forum.
On my older PC with a Pentium4 2.4 GHz and just 512 MB Ram it runs fine, and on my other Athlon X2 3800 Dualcore it is of course very smooth, no problem at all with Firefox 3.0.10.
So which PCs do not run okay ?
The home page sucks up 90% cpu on a fairly fast laptop. Probably the video.
Yup, its Flash, I`ve turned it off with NoScript.
I had it on that page last night and this morning it was still sucking up 90%. I would much prefer a solid background, preferable in the blue shades. Easy on the eyes.
Yep, or a nice shade of Green, more Apt for a Free Energy site... :)
The quoted text is also very hard to read. The font is too small and the gray makes it blurry. I would say make a nice solid color bakground with the overunity superimposed.
Please use one color background!
Yep.. Please, please, can we have a solid background.. green as this is a "green" site. Also can we have this link added to the home page or navigation menu for us who liked the old home page:

Stefan's Aunt passed away and he has been out of town at a funeral. I would suggest you cut him some slack.

i suggest AND demand your immediate suicide, pirate.
it would improve this website more than any mere modification to the backround.

nitinnun:
Wow! Where did this come from? I really try to make it a habit not to reply to such inane posts so, this is as much as you will get from me.
Bill
@nitinnun: You are well out of line here and may count yourself lucky I am not in a position to post ban you.
My condolances to Stefan, hope he is ok.
And in the same post congratulations for such a bold makeover.
As I am on a massively shared IP, I used to have to bypass a spam protection everytime, this is now gone...
As far as "bugs"
In frame pictures which surpass the post width do not make use of slider ito display the picture correctly, but simply overlap the statistics sidebar
That's it.
For improvements a single suggestion:
In the profile activate an option to switch templates, I believe it comes with standard SMF . Something like "lite" which simply displays a uniform background & no statistics. Switchable.
Either that or a drop down list in the top left or right corner with "Templates", Default, Lite, Multimedia, with an extra variable in the account cookie to remember the setting.
Great job, I know for a fact how hard it is to do such a makeover without breaking the forum.

I find it a little hard to read the black text on variable orange, amber, red, planet background. Is it possible to try white text instead?
Vidar
Stefan, my condolences.
Tesla
I like the home banner. Nice respect.
---giantkiller.
If you use Firefox the text is black color on grey background.
Only the ads have transparent background.
I have seen, that with IE there are some quirks,
so better use the current Firefox 3.0.10
I have not much time right now to change anything
without testing it further, so when I will
work on the next update I will maybe also
innclude other themes without the transparency
so you can switch the themes yourself.
But in this moment I will leave it this way cause I
have other work to do.
Regards, Stefan.
Red and Green should never be seen without a colour in between.
Hi Harti,
I have many years web development experience, so.. At the risk of being ripped to shreds by your members, I would like to volunteer to give the site a facelift free of charge as I have had many hours of enjoyment (and a little frustration) from using your wonderful site.
Cheers,
Dean

Hi Folks,
The link above could be used as a starting point to create a poll for the design we would like, unless people have other favourite forums they like the design of which they could share links to as ideas.
Sorry If i am jumping the gun Stefan, its just that I have the time at the moment and would sincerely
like to help if your work load is too great.
Dean
Hi Dean,
Do you have some knowledge in SMF themes or PHP ?
Do you have a running SMF website/forum ?
Please post a link to it, so I can have a look.
Many thanks.

Hi Stefan,
I have developed many business systems and have a lot of experience programming php.
Implementing a theme will not be a difficult task.
I can send you my resume if you like ?
Cheers,
Dean
Yes, please send a private mail.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards, Stefan.
Does this forum have an ignor list? If so, where?
Thanks
