Title: waterhammer effect & the pistol shrimp
Post by: joe dirt on February 25, 2007, 08:40:37 PM
Hello all

Here is an interesting device

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh_-DUKQ4Uw

which is a clip from this video

He attributes it to a "waterhammer effect" but doesn,t know
how the mechanism actually works.  I,ve been pondering this
for a while and it looks like what is happenning here is much
like the pistol shrimp and the way it utilizes "cavitation"
of water.
