Title: Shadouf lesson...
Post by: iacob alex on March 22, 2007, 11:05:15 PM
...can be useful,if we intend to understand something, about the interplay of the gravity and inertia,in a pendulum with a lever mechanism.

The shadouf is an ancient Egyptian technology, regarding the lifting power, with about the same capacity of other pumping methods, but it's easier to use.

A shadouf is a lever supported on a beam, with a bag/container on one end and a rock counterweight at the other end.

This tool is used by plunging the bag into water, raising it,swinging the beam in the horizontal plane, and dumping the water into an away sloping channel for irrigation.

Maybe, they used the same method,to build  the huge structures of the big stones pyramids.

Maybe ,this is a "lost"(forgotten) leverage technology of the lifting power, that comes by when we induce momentum in a lever with the help of a pendular motion.

Today, the shadouf is still employed,in poor countries, as a human powered water, only.

The dexterity of the operator, makes the lifting process,as a game,an easygoing work,in a way as Milkovic's pumping device.

Thinking about pyramids(lifting the massive stones),the swinging pendular motion on a free/mobile fulcrum(pendulum with a lever),can develop a strong interplay with inertia(inertial induction),that is tranffered to the fixed weight(load) at the other end of the lever.

In fact, they performed an ingenuous, plain speaking ,effect:a greater, radial acceleration of the swinging mass is applied to the free fulcrum at the effort arm of the lever,so to lift, step by step, the huge load at the other end of the same beam/lever.

Step by step, every pendular fall adds a dynamic momentum to a static balance, played by the lever.

If we add some rapid push(start velocity) to the pendular fall, the dynamic momentum that is transffered at the swinging bottom position, for the fixed mass(load) is enlarged.

Our push adds a greater rotational inertia effect than gravity:so,we arouse an increasing inertial induction result.

In my mind, the "skeleton' design,it's a two sticks game(lever and pendulum) and their magic interplay in gravity and inertia:inertial induction.

...can be expressed easy,as in an elementary lab-demo,with the help of the "Two sticks game..." topic.

This "lesson" is thousand and thousand  up in years: Egypt.

In a common translational flow,an asymmetic shape wheel,is pressed to a continuous rotation.

     Remind  the key words:asymmetric shape.

Gravity is a "very" symmetric (irrotational, that is you can't get directly some vortices effects ) phenomenon ,so we have no chance, never to play an asymmetric game directly with this field.

But sometimes(shadouf,Milkovic...),if we play an additional free pendulum,we interfere in the same time with gravity and rotational inertia...and you can see the results.

     Remind the key words:asymmetric effect.

...as you know,it's so old(Ancient Egypt); a genuine application of lever and pendulum swinging..

That's not the first time, when the people perform the physical laws, intuitively,or as a folklore, long before we can see then on paper,as a canonic theory.

If you take a look at    www.veljkomilkovic.com/Images/Aleksandar_Slavkovic_Milkovic's_Two_Stages_Oscillator_As_a_Parametric_Oscillator.pdf  ,you can read a short description.

:  "Mr. Milkovic's invention should be viewed as a five component system: the lever, the lever's fulcrum, the pendulum,,the pendulum's fulcrum and the counterweight".

Now,if we take a look at a shadouf (Middle East), or an ancient country fountain(Eastern Europe),we can number the same five spare parts.

Even more, they play the same dynamics: the people use the swinging motion of a pendulum(pole+bucket+water),as an easygoing manner,so to move upwords water, from a low to a high level, against the gravity.

Really,we can see and involuntary practice the physical laws, more that we can lay on paper...this time, swinging, pumping inertia.

...as we can see in the history, is a real "technical folklore".

The real problem of a shadouf,as it was used, was never the so called   "free" energy, but simply an advantageous manipulation of a /pole+bucket+water/,or a  pendulum equivalent ,so to mount water at a higher level.

In this way, intuitively, the performers added some "help" from a pendular system, moving freely in a mobile fulcrum,as on the waves.

Later,Milkovic developed the abstracts of this problem,and...the possibility to manage  a favorable non-linear  process, with an output>input.

In one and the other case,to simplify,we have the samr basics:lever+pendulum("two sticks game"),so easy to play.
