Title: Ultrasonic generator application
Post by: keithturtle on May 13, 2007, 01:16:31 AM
Howdy,Y'all;
I recently got my hands on an old medical ultrasonic generator, ca.1950's.  Doc said it was 100,000cps, and would bubble water at the point of skin contact (heat or what?) so he used mineral oil as transfer medium.   I think it was used to alleviate muscle or tendon strains.   Anyhow, I have this dinosaur taking up shop space, and wonder if anyone knows of an application for it.  I thought of lashing the output probe to my containment vessel and checking for changes in gas production.

Ideas, anyone?

Thanks
Keith

Keith,

Take a look at my experiment with frequency in the 20k hz range.

The thread is "interesting experiment with meyers type cell".

Please post the results of your experiment.

Thank you,
Bruce

100,000 is bound to be some harmonic of 20,000.   Still working to get the baselines set up.

I'll give it a try; getting the vibrations to transfer shouldn't be too hard.

I used an earphone and dropped it in.  It works fine for testing.  Like a small mini underwater speaker.

Why not use a piezo speaker (all metal construction)? The best reason I can think of is they can far exceed the 20K frequency limit of most common speakers. I've read some piezos can produce up to 60K. Don't know first hand, but certainly worth looking into, I'd think.

Perhaps some very thin SS could be used as a piezo. Just a thought.
