Title: I need some answers about this machine :(
Post by: your_evidence on July 30, 2007, 04:34:36 AM
Hi all I just joined, I've been looking at y'all threads for a while and i didn't have an account so i made one today.

I just happen to stumble through one of chuck2na's videos on youtube a few days ago, and saw your link to this site.
I find it very interesting the facts of this machine, and I've been reading somewhat allot about newman and he's invention and he's history. But i have a problem, i don't know much about electricity or electric things, I did complete a course on basic electronics , but as a teen i didn't put much attention in class, and i failed the 2 of the final tests lol i was only going there because my parents wanted me to keep studying instead of going to work. I regret not paying attention in class now lol. But i got the will to construct one of these  :)

Anyways i just wanted to know a few things before i go ahead in constructing the device.

What type of wire do you normally use? and how much do i need? And in which direction should the wire be wrapped around the mold? does it make a difference?

How many watts is this machine capable of producing? Can it produce enough energy to at least run a drill?

What if instead of using a battery, we use the power of a lemon battery?I've seen a few of these on youtube, So the energy is totally coming from 'nothing' into something.

My dad use to have a converter that was used to power a drill, from the car battery, voltage converter to a drill, can we use this newman machine with a voltage converter to power some home appliances?

About the commutator, what exactly is a commutator? i read something about tapping 330 deg of the pole and leaving 30 untapped so that a wire coming from the (minus pole)battery touches those 30 deg. is this the commutator that we're talking about?

Last question, how are the magnets setup, same poles facing each other or opposite? are they touching the center pole?

Sorry about the long post. Too many questions from me, I'm still learning  ;D you can call me ignorant in the area of electricity at this stage  :-X

Thanks in advance,
Allan

Hi your_evidence,

Indeed you have many questions.  :D

First the Newman Motor is a favorite among the replication community because it is easy to build, works in its simplest mode, pliers and wire. The motor is very efficient but it has its drawbacks. To do any significant work, you need big components.
That should answer most of your questions, specially the lemon battery.

I am new here too with mentions a little about my replications.
