try stopping the bottom crank shaft when turning the gears

(B) will force the rod between (A) and (B) to act as a leaver forcing (B) down and (A) up the gears will equalize this motion leaving the gears to move easy with a large load on the crank shaft.
Standed crank shaft the gears move up then down then up (etc).
The gears, wheels and crank shaft are conneted to the frame of the device.

@allmee

Sorry but I don't see this happening at all in your design.

If the camshaft pushes its vetical shaft upwards, B will not move and act as a pivot for A to come down. When the camshaft pushes its vetical shaft down, again B will not move and A will go upwards.
