G'day all,
I have been sent this photograph of an alleged Keely device.
Does someone have an idea what it is and what it is supposed to do?
It has got me stuffed.
Hans von Lieven
My guess is its electrostatic in nature.
Jason
G'day Jason,
You mean like a kind of Wimshurst Machine?
Hans von Lieven
Yeah, I've looked at many different types of high voltage machines and this one just has that same feel to it. I could be way off base, but thats my best guess. Let me look through some of the electrostatic machines located on this page http://www.coe.ufrj.br/~acmq/electrostatic.html and see if I can find one that is similar.
Jason
Yes, I agree with Nastrand, it does appear to be electrostatic in nature. My first thought was of the Wimshurst electrostatic generator as you said Hans.

Hans:
After a second look I noticed that the parts of the device appear to be labeled. Is there any way to enlarge the photo and enhance enough to read the writing? This would gives us a better idea of what it might be. I have some enhancement software, but it doesn't really do much. Someone here probably has something that might work.

This might be a little better but the software is not that good as I said.
G'day all,
Together with you Bill I do not think this is a version of a Wimshurst machine, it could indeed be Keely. It is a shame it is only a lousy jpg and not an original scan. Looking at it though, in spite of the poor resolution, what appear to be sectors in an electrostatic generator could easily be resonators especially as they seem to occupy too little space radially to be very effective in electrostatic generation.
The writing appears to be an attempt of someone to analyse the device, writing directly on a photograph.
In the lowest right hand section I think I can make out the words "Small" and "Chladni" which would indicate it to be of an acoustic nature, at least in the eyes of the investigator.
Above that Disk to have ???????
The top left hand section seems to read Agitation Disk.
Underneath: Small ??
Underneath ?? the photograph of ????????
I wonder if anyone else would agree with me on this.
Thanks for your help fellows, you are all champions.

Small "oblates"(=plates/discs) ?

Maybe maybe not, at least it's fun :-)

Here you can get books from the 1800's mentioning Keely works.
http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=keely&go=&form=QBRE&scope=books#q=keely%20motor&filter=free&start=1 (http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=keely&go=&form=QBRE&scope=books#q=keely%20motor&filter=free&start=1)
Other then that it is a great source to find very old complete books.
Steven
This is a note I received from Russ, another Keely researcher;
"The device is a discontinued unit that was not performing function. (Unworkable)
Keely built this to obtain sound force from liberating atoms of air gases , and provide useful output.
Notations around the model read - from counterclockwise left side -- Agitation disc, Small chladna, Have no photographs of back view at present, Small chladna, Disc to be sensitized, The back of which the Transmitters are attatched, steel plates, vulcanite discs, Universal fork. The notation on large plate reads- Domanant chladna."
That seems to settle it, doesn't it?
Hans von Lieven
Mystery solved. That's a lot more than I could read from my enhanced version.
Bill
G'day Bill,
I have a feeling Russ has a much better version of the photograph. :-)

G'day Gustav,
I am aware that this is no fault of your own, but arma is probably right, in a way.
There are a lot of scam merchants on the net that have malicious software hidden in their URL's. Some of these websites appear to have harmless content, often of a technical nature, that are designed to trap the unwary.
You have possibly included one or more of these sites in your listing and his protective software has picked it up.
Ask him which sites he is referring to and cull them from your list. In a collection such as yours this is unfortunately an ever present problem. If it is your site he is referring to it could be that your computer and your site has been hijacked. Check your computer and your site with up to date software.
Greetings,
Hans von Lieven
Hi Hans
What about a adjustable capacitor for high voltages.
Becorse of the transmission ribbon to have isolation against injury
Sorry about my lousy english

end of fight.
@Gustav,
I am not sure what happened here. From all his other posts arma appears to be a reasonable and knowledgeable man. I can only think that the note was typed in the heat of the moment without much thinking. We have all been guilty of this at one time or another. I would not take it too seriously.
Greetings
Hans
Wow, definitly not the response I thought my comment would elicit. Gotta love our little tower of Babel we have built ourselves!
Im sure your website is a wonderful one. I have not been able to visit it yet because I am posting from my office at work.
My office has a filter in place, as do many companies. We pay a third party who tracks and categorizes websites to supply us with software that will automatically block websites. some of the blocked categories are:
adult content
social and chat
video
and recently "malicious"
I in no way intended to offend you my good man. I was simply stating that I thought that it was humerous that my company had banned a website labeling it malicious, when its content clearly (at least in my eyes) is not.
I thought it was a little humerous also, because to many the content of an OU ZPE AETHER etc. site would be malicious! (to the oil-lords that is!)
Dont take it as an insult. wear it as a badge of Honor!
Your website my friend has been singled out as malicious while tons of other OU sites have not! YOU MUST HOLD IMPORTANT INFO INDEED!!!
Just for the record, I dont generally type out of anger, If you ever get the wrong impression, im sure it was just a miscommunication.
G'day all,
This thread has run it's day, it has fulfilled its function and produced a good result. A big thank you to all of you who have contributed. So before this shoots further off on a tangent,
Have a good day everybody, see you on another thread.
