sorry my first post is a request! i haven't finished building a working motor yet, but i'm getting there!
could someone point to or lay out some basics on magnets, such as:
specifically, which types are stronger than others.
also which metals and materials are attracted to magnets.

what is the material they are stuck to that insulates them???

If your talking about the metal, it's known as Mu-Metal, it has high permeability(highly attracted to magnets), it can be used as a shield, if you had a U shaped piece for instance and placed a magnet inside, then most of the flux is directed from one pole to the other, the mu-metal is effectively shorting out the poles.
