I don't know if this is the right place to put this question, but I'm in need of a DC non-pulsed variable high voltage power supply in the area of 5k-30k. Where could I find such an item? Would I have to have one that worked off of batteries? The only kind of high voltage power supplies I've seen are AC powered and pulsed current. I need a pure non-pulsed DC supply. Anybody know? TIA
I can put you in touch with a fellow that has around eight brand new 1000W extra auto transformer ballasts that he's looking to let go. I know they're ready for a capacitor case a or ignitor setup. The capacitors are included. If you would like to make an offer or get in touch with him, PM me and I'll hook it up for you.
Where do you need them shipped?
Thanks for the reply but I dont know (or wouldnt trust myself) enough to build one.
Build what? A cap case? I'm sure he would put it together for you if you needed. What type of variable do you need for it? What are they for? Telsa coil or just a PS for something?
Need a high voltage pure DC power supply for building electrets. Something from 5k to 30k. I also see that the flyback type transformers from old computer monitors is a good source of pure DC

Open sesame...

Yeah, I had my heart set on the 35k one, but it says it can be used for pulsed magnetic systems, so I dont think its what I need. Lotta good stuff on that site though.

Nah, Mr Spates, I'm sure it will fit your purposes. It doesn't mean the supply is pulsed, it's just saying you can use it to charge a capacitor for those type of experiments. It's DC I'm sure of it. Of course, drop them a mail before you part with cash to confirm. Look like a nice piece of kit for a nice price... in fact I'm slowly talking myself into one!

Unlike Amazing1.com, they don't ship outside the US, unfortunately.
Thanks. I think I will write them just to be sure, by the way if you look on ebay under high voltage power supplies, theres this guy who builds and sells those like you are looking at for around 100 bucks I think. He's been around for a while, so you might have a look, but his are pulsed, thats why I didnt buy one from him.

Whoops, you were wrong. Its an adjustable pulsed out-put.
I've seen what you are looking for before on Ebay... they are very expensive. The really nice ones 1kV - 100kV , variable, ~ 5mA output sell for $700-$1000.
As for the "it must run off batteries" , don't restrict yourself to that. ;D You can easily build an inverter to convert 12VDC to 115VAC. I actually built an inverter earlier tonite out of space parts and got 120VAC out from 8 AA batteries. ;)
The basic circuit is just an astable multivibrator ... 2 capacitors, 4 resistors, and 2 transistors. You power the multivibrator off batteries, then run the output (12VAC) into a regular old 12V to 115V transformer you get from radioshack. And there's your 115VAC from a battery for about $10 in parts.
Astable multivibrator
