Title: SSG with SCR?s
Post by: matthiasschmitt on April 22, 2008, 08:32:06 AM
hi everbody,

I built a SSG Replication (using the original SSG circuit) and now I enhanced it by using a SCR. But my circuit does not work. this is what i did: i replaced the diodes at the output with a 1 KV bridge rectifier and then i used this schematic for connecting the SCR:

http://www.overunity.com/index.php?topic=3725.80;topicseen (scroll down page to bottom to see the pic, there is also a schematic of the circuit i use in the middle of the page)

my cap is 3,3 mF/350 V and the SCR is a BT137/800. I can adjust resistance  between anode and gate, but result is the same: the SCR does not switch. I can see this clearly because my neon bulb wich protects the transistor lights up when i run the motor. what?s wrong with my circuit?

greetings from germany

matthias

Hi Matthias,

while I cant profess to be an electronics expert I cant help but notice the BT137/800 is listed as a Triac and not a Silicon Controlled Rectifier. I only have a basic understanding of such, but I believe it may be the reason why you are experiencing problems. If you obtain an SCR and wire it up correctly and are still having problems post here again.

The Scr I am using is this one:
