I am currently constructing a bigger HHO cell. Somebody was telling me yesterday here in the United Kingdom, that it is illegal to fit such a device to my car.
Does anybody know if it is illegal in this country (united Kingdom).
Judging by the lack of response... Does this mean that I'm the only member on here that lives in the UK ?. :D
as we r all part of EU i guess the rules are quite the same.In Poland,Belgium u can't do any modifications without homologation. No blue lights,no chip tuning no smaller driving wheel.Basically u can't do anything, but the thing is actually who is executing this checks?I just heard about police actions to reduce the use of too loud exhaust cans.If someone has any objections say it is an electric cabin air filter because u have allergy for fine dust or something ;D (print yourself a seriuosly looking sticker with tech info on it like : "allergent filter AG co." ,part number).if its easy bolt on system just remove it before year technical check and put it on afterwards :).
hahaha yeah you have special alergys, heres my doctors note officer... ha
and you could hide that thing good too.

I guess that may be the real reason behind the MOT test, just a way of spying on us. Well f**k the Ministry Of Transport, because I'm still going to go ahead and build it, then I'm going to install it in my car. Then every time I get into a conversation with anybody, I'm going to let them all know how much we are getting conned by the government.
Wish me luck ;)
GOOD LUCK, BUT YOULL NEED MORE THAN LUCK, LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN ABOUT EVERY ASPECT legality too, look for a loop hole there has to be one, isnt it a "free country"? even america has some bogus ass laws but not being able to modify your car??? thats more than rediculous i feel bad for yall, something has to be done, you know how much extra your gov. would make if they could tax millions of dollers in sales on aftermarket parts for cars? did i read that right? you cant moify your own car???????

u can't modify your car with parts that are not homologated(special testing procedure by officials if modification is safe to use). So if u want to use an exhoust can and it has a homologation sign (like TUV or EU approved) u can put it on :) but if u made something yourself,to have it legally you would have to go through the procedure to approve it for automotive vehicles. That is the theory, but for example in blegium noone is asking u to take technical check on your motorbike,so its up to you wheather you will go for a check. In that case only if u run something extreem (like open exhaust or i don't know...horns on your steering ;) ) and police can spot you,you may have some trouble. In my case i modified a Yamaha FZR , i added a turbocharger but found no problems what so ever.I can imagine if a guy who bought it from me had some crash, insurance company could say they won't pay because Yama was modified and not approved so it could have been a source of an accident.
Take it for a car then situatiion look different.car has to be checked by a technician every year.Technician can spot some equipement you added and say no to prolong your papers. In practice i have never heard of any problems, but if u had no exhaust or u cut out the catalisator...the story could be different.
I can imagine if some guys (other topic on this forum) want to put an impeller on the roof of their car it can draw unwanted attention.I would just put some sticker on the HHO unit and disguise it as a filter :) noone will ask any questions.Once i had a kind of a cooler and i was driving with a connected CO2 tank in my trunk to run the cooling.I went for a tch check and noone asked nothing.
Its up to u ,personnaly i would just made a good story and stick to it ;)
I suppose I could disguise it as a windscreen-washer bottle. Most of the police in this country don't know the difference between an exhaust pipe and a drain pipe, so I need not worry about them. I suppose that I would just have to make it easy to remove, and remove it each year when the MOT is due.
It is easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission.
I was wondering about putting the electrolizer in the interior of the car
all that would need to go through the firewall are a couple wires and a tube ........easy to disconnect for inspections .
Also .....I am wondering how to make it work through the winter .
If it inside the passenger compartemt it is in effect in a solar collector .
It would be quite a bit easier to keep it from freezing in the passenger compartment than it would in the engine bay
One thing I am not sure about would be condensation in the tube going into the engine bay
gary
I would highly recommend not having your cell any where inside the passenger area of the vehicle. If space in the engine compartment is an issue, try relocating the battery to the trunk. Use the space where the battery was for your electrolyser.
Keeping water from freezing in the winter can be solved by using a teaspoon of alcohol in your water. Kinda like how they use it to keep your windshield wash from freezing.

I am driving a jeep cherokee .......no trunk ,........ almost no space in the engine bay
when using alcohol to keep it from freezing doesn't the alcohol electrlize like the water? . I know it will boil off before water
gary
u can use the di-ethyl glycol. It is antifreeze used commonly in car cooling systems. It has boiling point higher than water so no prob. As far as i know only salts, acids and lye(? i don't know the name ex. KOH) both organic and not organic can be electrolysed.Simple explanation comes down to ions availability. Those 3 groups have ions.
Damn Cherokee :D for your personal safely i would not put it inside of the cabin!
