Title: do you think it would work?
Post by: canuck22 on May 08, 2008, 01:10:57 PM
well I have no formal education in mechanics, physics, engineering, etc, etc, but I have had a knack to make things work, nor do I have the facilities to be able to actually try this

my idea, and I have looked for anything similar and have never seen an idea like it

if you were to take a 2 cylinder engine, or compressor, remove the top end, connect the rods in a way to say 50# springs, could you put a wieght on the flywheel to be able to overcome the resistants of the springs to go past tdc?

what weight would you need and at what rpm?

Canuck

I  would  say that  anyone   with more than  half  an education in  such things would tell  you that it won't work

I  don't have  more than half an  education  so I  will  say ..........maybe  it could work .

If   you had    a long heavy  rod  or beam   .........at some  frequency  it  would have a natural  resonance .....in other  words it would  vibrate like a  guatar string .         If   you  hooked  a  crankshaft  of the right  lenght   to this  rod    you could  get  rotory motion  out of it .

Would  it  be  over unity ?   probably not .........unless  you  fond a naturally  occurring  vibration  you could  tap  in this maner .

Your  idea  with  springs  would work in a similar way ......  a  very heavy piston    connected to  springs would have a   specific  fewquency of  oscillation .    Your  springs   would  would  be   storing energy half of the time then releasing that  energy  the other half of the time . .......so no  energy gain there ....... but  again   it  could   be used to tap energy from  a pre existing   vibration

what I mean is, I am looking to be able to bring the piston rod to top dead center, then make it go over top dead center using a weight on a flywheel as kenetic energy to do the work, the speing would send the rod back down to bottem dead center

the opposing rod would go over tdc ( top dead center ) ans send the 1st rod back up

I have no  idea  what configuration  you  are  thinking  of having the rods in .

It looks to me  like you are trying to extract energy from the springs ......you won't  get  any  more out of them than you  put in .

yes

all I want to do is keep it revolving, using the spings and weighted flywheel, the springs and weight would supply torque to runa generator
