Hello everyone. An IRC channel has been created on the irc.icq.com network. This network was chosen because it hides each person's IP.
In all of my computer or research related endeavors, I have always found real-time chat to be absolutely invaluable, and ever since getting involved with FE, I have wished for an IRC channel where I could talk with people in real-time. We now have such a channel, but we need more people so there is more knowledge to be shared.
Please join us in #free-energy on the irc.icq.com network. If you need a chat client, I recommend on of the free distributions of xchat.

Why not use freenode? irc.freenode.net
Then we can go in over tor. Then I don't have to trust ICQ to hide my IP.
The onion router while it has been a great project has been used for many devious things...
I was unhappy to find that its security was comprimised when servers on the onion network were confiscated due to illegal activity or what ever it was not too long ago...
I recall reading an article on TOR being breached by government understandable I suppose but makes me wonder if there wasnt some implamentation hole that was adjusted in for government agencies... To save from future hassels.
While I used tor in the past for security as well as surfing security with privoxy I am a little leary on using it cause of what happend....
Not much to hide I suppose with FE/OU but you can never trust hackers and information/identity thiefs...
I say the best bet would to have a server with SSL and just use vhosts nothing is 100% but hell thats good enough...
Security seems only as good as its implamentation... The weak point is not the cipher or the strength in most cases but rather the implamentation.
Finally we discuss freely on the forums with IP's Exposed I guess at worst case effnet or whatever may not be such a sinister idea either...

Personally, I think the tor implementation is okay. I am unclear what incident you are referring to -- I know people were logging into places without TLS. But otherwise I can't think of any practical attacks on tor anonymity and that is what would matter for IRC. Just my 2c anyway ;)
To be frank tor is great,
But you may get busted for simply relaying traffic for pirates, pornographers or identity thiefs....
As it is clearly stated you are responsible for your network and ignorance is no longer an excuse that can be used...

But it is important to note for everyones security of there own network that while you use tor you are not only functioning as a client but also a server in all due respects the information being passed through your IP may be volitle and may land you in troubled waters! Because you may be last on the chain or the ip used to pin something to...
Essientially you are a proxy for others just as they are a proxy for you.
And in doing so this puts you at risk but if you are aware of the risk and you weigh the reward and the reward seems best the by all means jump I TOR ...
In spite of what I say I support the effort for TOR and have used it for IRC to login to IRC servers using the PHP versions and before that TOR wasnt blocked by any servers so you could use TOR straight up but anyhow.
I just feel the need to emphasize the pros and cons of the network... More or less.
Feynman I agree TOR could be a great sulotion with freenode for those worried about there security or privacy but it does come with a possible price.
I think using Tor on freenode is a really good idea. Thank you Feynman. I'll talk it over with the other ops tomorrow and see what the consensus is.
