I believe that on board steam reformers would be the easiest way for us to solve the climate crisis and extend the world's oil supply. This is because it is a technology that has already been created and never implemented in the ways it could be. In the case of a car you are running it on H2. Half of that H2 is coming from water. Here is a link to a story I wrote on the subject a few years ago:
Petroleum: The Clean, Renewable Fuel for the Future (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2005/11/22/074106.php)
sorry that link was not to the story I intended it to be to... I will try to find the right one.
here is a link to an article of mine that someone posted and it is more the one I meant to link to in the first place:
http://www.zpenergy.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&thold=-1&mode=flat&order=0&sid=724
so you have shed your true color - that you are paid by the oil companies to de-bunk anything on HHO....harharhar ;D
um, yeah...ok
We have other fuel alternatives that can and should be used. Bio Diesel and Ethanol. They both can be produced from things that are grown and that makes them both Renewable without using anything that we depend on for our own existence. Those who take oil from the ground needs to be stopped. They are jeopardizing our planets existence and it is done for one reason and that reason is big money greed.
Ethanol was used before gasoline and even today 100% Ethanol can be used to fuel all our gasoline consuming motors. We just have to make a few minor adjustments. The same for diesel. Car makers could and should be building vehicles that can use either Ethanol or Bio Diesel so that we don?t have to convert them. I think big money has something to do with them not doing this now.
Ethanol can be made for about $1.00 per gallon using crop waste and only $.10 if alcohol waste is used.
Bio Diesel can be made for about $1.25 per gallon using algae and $.80 using grease waste.
I have mixed feeling about this. Firstly - the oil & coal & uranium reserves in the ground are there for us to use. We may as well use them. We can put the crap back it came from - no harm done. Radioactive materials are going to decay in their own time - I see no harm in speeding this up. What use are oil or coal deposits in the ground? Use them up cleanly, safely & wisely - no problem.
Despite the inconvenient bullshit being promoted for political gain at the moment - man isn't destroying the ozone layer with CO2 as is suggested by morons. CO2 is heavier than air - it doesn't even get off the ground for a start. And the hole in the ozone layer is a function of gravity/magnetism and various in a cycle that goes on with or without us. (Other gases - maybe - but not CO2).
If you want more O2 in your air - the solution is to grow a LOT more green stuff that photosynthesis. Actually - friggin rain forests contribute little to O2, because they aren't that green. We could grow mountains of green algae - fed with raw sewage from our cities - and turn this back into diesel. No worries. Or just grow it to purify our air. If we had free energy, we wouldn't even need sunlight.
Anyway - the flip side. The PROBLEM with petroleum products is that the corporate whores are just too greedy, and the politicians make far too much TAX. The real issue here is FREEDOM - which of course, is no longer legal in the USA.
You can use the reformer process on just about any hudrocarbon such as alcohol (http://www.ecn.nl/docs/library/report/2004/c04105.pdf), biodiesel (http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/story?id=44413) or even sugar (http://www.nmt.edu/~hirsch):)
Remember that, no matter what kind of hydrocarbon is used, up to 60% of the hydrogen fuel produced comes from the water NOT the hydrocarbon.
And still have to pay the ransom money to Uncle Sam ...
I think steam engine technology with modern materials would be awesome. You could burn literally anything that burns (junk mail, garbage..). But the greenies would kill that idea.
I am really looking forward to electric vehicles. Caterpillar and other heavy vehicle builders are making hybrid earthmovers now. They use massive capacitors instead of batteries. I really think capacitor storage is the ultimate answer for just about anything that needs power.
But the power needs to come from somewhere ... I hope for a gravity wheel or something I can buy once and never have to pay tax on energy ever again ...
Is that every going to happen? ... not if certain people can help it ... it's WAR.
No really.
You are right, the power for electric vehicles has to come from somewhere so they just move the pollution to another source as long as grid power is used to charge them.
Static electricity can be collected and if electric car motors were powered with pulsed current instead of direct current, the collapsing fields could be recovered to help prolong the battery's charge life. The time it would then take for the charge life to fall below the needed voltage, enough static electricity could be collected and then used as the power source.
Think of a Bedini motor and then ways of collecting static electricity. Then imagine a Bedini motor that utilizes both poles of the electromagnetic coil. Then add the torque of the gap between two opposite poled magnets.
Do you really think big money would let someone do this? LOL
sorry, double post
Hi nightlife,
Cars already run on pulsed DC. The alternator produces AC which is turned into pulsed DC by ur voltage regulator.
I think that you would have no problem producing and marketing an on-board steam reformer system. The Pacific Northwest Lab built one in 2004 which was later used by the US Army in Iraq to produce H2 fuel for fuel cell generators on the battlefield. Then the Army dropped funding and a private source they had also lost interest.
In order to convert a car, truck, ship or locomotive to run on either CO/H2 Synfuel or straight H2 you could use one of the many dual fuel systems which are already available out there. I spoke to one of the lead researchers at Pacific Northwest as well as an engineer at a company that produces dual fuel systems and base my statements on those conversations.
Benefit is that up to 60% of the fuel you are running your car on comes from water and this reduces fossil fuel consumption and CO2 pollution by a similar percentage. Also you can make this fuel from any carbon or hydrocarbon and water (even coal). This is the basis of the FutureGen coal plants. Of course they aren't really coal plants, the turbines there run on hydrogen fuel so they are actually the world's first large scale hydrogen from water fueled electric plants. Yet no one seems to realize this or understand the technology....
Farmers could fuel their equipment from old cornstalks. Truckers could double their fuel mileage. The world could reduce it's fuel consumption and CO2 pollution by 60% in a few short years... This is why I decided to give up pointless H2 schemes and focus on what will work NOW, not in 20 or 30 years. I firmly believe that on-board reformers are the way we need to go.
By the way, steam reformers can be made to be exothermic and self sustaining so they rob zero power from the vehicle. It is 60% H2 from water fuel with no losses and since you store your H2 fuel as water until time of use there is no problem with changing our storage, transportation or distribution infrastructure to use H2 fuel in this manner. All claims I make here can be verified through many articles published in peer reviewed journals and I will be happy to supply links to same to anyone who is interested.
enki09,

I think you missed my point. I was referring to the electric motors used in electric cars.

Please post some links because I would like to read some of the articles you are talking about.
Howdy Y'all,
Greendoor is right.
"The love of money is the root of all evil"... -JC.
The corporate and political "whores" who want to sit back in their cushy chairs and soak up money for doing NOTHING should be eliminated.
"They who do not work, they also shall not eat"... -JC
The ONLY reason we have centralized power distribution grids is control. Those in power have the insatiable desire to control those around them. The most basic fundamental form of evil is control over people. It is the most temptatious and delicious form of control, and it is what must be stopped. The only reason governments exist is so that these evil men can exercise their control to make themselves seem powerful.
There are a bizillion forms of energy production. Energy is literally everywhere. The trouble here is the populous is dependent on the grid. If everyone was to make the effort to produce their own energy, and were all able to get off the grid, then the "powers that be" would no longer have their power and control. I have been researching this a long time. I have seen every type of energy production system imaginable from zero point converters to methane scavengers. We can do this. Spread the word. Make it happen. Free the world.
I think the ultimate energy solution is the zero point converter. A system which scavenges energy from the environment, converts it to electric power, then uses the electric power to do work, such as propel a vehicle. It is also the most heady, and research intensive system, but I think well worth it. This is what the Overunity Prize if for. A solid state electric free energy converter would require the least maintenance, the least natural resources, and possibly the largest power to weight ratio. Why are we messing around with anything else? Because its easier? Come On! We need viable long term energy solutions here!
Blessed Be Brothers...
Hmmm... Steam reformation...
As I recall porous, sintered electrodes; a 'solid' electrolyte and ...(google time!)
60% (or more) of the energy used in an ICE is wasted as heat...
You could start the engine normally to get the heat going and then change over.
So less posting and more researching!
(CO2 traps the heat that should be radiated, from the earth, as infra-red, at night...)
