Details are slim. But the guy did enter his car in the $10 Million Progressive Automobile contest, so we should find out soon if this is legit or not.

There is a copy of a government mandate that said there would be no
car getting over 40mpg in 2003. Well before that europe come out with
a diesel car that could get 200mpg but was scrapped due to pressure.
Its all in what will be allowed. All I can say is "watch your back mate,
spread the info around multiple places. But he will see $$ and get the
shaft in the end and no car. DOH!

Back in the early 1990's I started looking into these inventions and found that there has been a long continous effort since the 1930's to keep the auto at the same level .But it's worst than that .Now I have learned that the vaccines we give our kids have aluninum and merury compounds that give them learning disablities. Now who decided to make our kids dummies? So 1 out of 166 kids have a problem
and it appears that certain people in the U.S. government were behind this(1988).So what can we do about this?Triffid
Back in 1985 I bought a 1986 chevy sprint(standard) that got 50mpg..Two years later they stopped making them and I was forced to sell the car ten years later(couldn't find another engine for it)I had already replaced 3 engines and could not find a fourth one.So they had a car that got 50mpg.Triffid

"According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the midsize Prius gets 48 miles per gallon in the city, eight mpg more than the runner-up, the Honda Civic Hybrid. Each car gets 45 mpg on the highway."

The chevy sprint became a Geo Metro but the engines were different enough not to fit into my sprint. So I was out of luck there.I did hear that some of the geo metros could get 50mpg.But never checked it out for myself.Triffid
My wife's 1994 Geo Metro (3 cylinder) with 138K+ miles on it gets between 50-55 MPG on the highway depending on whether it's just her, or the both of us, in the car. She bought it new in '94 and it's all ragged looking but there's no way I could get her to trade it. She's gonna drive it till the wheels fall off ;)
OK, this is interesting. I am still not convinced of a conspiracy here but, no matter. VW, who made diesel Rabbits in the 80's that got 55 mpg, (several of my friends had them) now, well has had a newer version that gets 75 mpg without the hassle and expense of the batteries for hybrids, and have just now received permission to sell them in the US even though they have sold them in Europe for several years. 75 mpg!!! The hybrids get about 35 or so with a lot of added costs. This is insane to me. If VW backed off on the performance level (which most of us Americans would not buy then) they could get close to 100 mpg from a regular diesel engine.
I have several neighbors that have purchased Harleys due to, (they say) the gas crunch. Problem is, these motorcycles get 35 mpg. Hell, my minivan gets 27. This is not a step forward.
Thanks for bringing this guy's Mustang to our attention. Maybe we will hear more in the future about it. It is time to give up "performance" as in 0-60 times for real "performance" of fantastic mpg. My humble opinion.
