I thought this was about chips implanted in human body's. The Canadians are a bit late with this. In the EU chipped cards are a common thing, even for ID cards.

I really do not see how is this more secure. I have a debit card with it and most merchants still use terminals without the support for this chip, thus could skim me anytime they like when I'm not paying attention.
It is just another gimmick to fool the people into false sense of security...or honesty by the financial institutions.

Card fraud fell by over 40% in the EU after chip and pin came in. Just a gimmick eh?
