Title: New off web site research networking site up and running
Post by: Butch LaFonte on February 03, 2009, 03:58:02 PM
To all present LaFonte Research Network members,
I have come up with an idea I hope you will like. It allows the networking to stay email based and away from web hackers. We will have a web page but no networking will be done on the web page. The page just lets the public know about the network and how to become a member. Here is how it will work.
Every present member needs to send me (lafontegroup@charter.net) an email listing their technical background or area of study be it formal or self study and what they are working on or interested in working on and any needs they might request of the network members. Include ONLY your first and last name and email address. Do not include your phone number or location.
I will put all this data into one email and send it to all network members and then members can communicate with each other direct through email. PLEASE print out all your correspondence and keep in a binder in the order they are received for your future reference. You can send drawings and video or animations to each other attached to your emails. If the file is to big for email, a free service called,   yousendit.com   can be used at no charge. It stays web based and by-passes email servers. I have used it for five years with no trouble. Should you want to tell or ask all the members anything just send it to me and I will forward it to all members and they can reply to you direct through email.
This will keep it email based and prevent spammers and people that only want to put down your work from ever seeing what you are doing.
Every time a new member joins I will send out to all members the information so you can add it to your members file. I will be the only one that has your phone number and location.
You will now have a non website based networking resource of fellow researchers that you can communicate with direct and avoid web site hackers and trouble makers.
If you ever want to put something on our public web site be it video, animation, drawings or text, our web site will be available for that also.
So to get this started please do the following and remember this is for all members to read, so don't talk to me but to all the members when writing it.

Thanks,
Butch LaFonte

I did attempt to report this to the MODERATOR but I got an error.

IMHO

You should not allow this theft of resources from the OU forum, I guess stefan is signed up. We are LEFT OUT!

@Butch:
I feel your asking for personal information like that is a bit out there.
I tend to refuse to give it to anyone else, why would you be different?
You just have to put on your thick skin and use a plonk file to weed
out what you dont want to deal with. If you dont feed them, they go to
a different place to get their jollies.

Sorry Thaelin,

I agree with Butch, I refuse to carry on private communication with any one who cannot give true surname and a background. It is a sign of integrity and the best way to build trust. if you must hide behind a pseudonym which gives the resemblance of pseudo then that is your prerogative.

The idea of weeding out those you do not wish to deal with is something I have dreamed of for years. I do not enjoy weeding out irrelevant posts from armchair theorists that debate an issue without objective proof or not related to subject topic.

There are members here who bounce back and and forth from forum to forum always using a different pseudonym,  They have nothing tangible or productive to add to think-tank debate. To define between the 'doers' and the riff is a long awaited dream!

Feeding them to get their jollies is exactly what is not needed to form a 'skunk-tank' methodology in serious research.

If I was in a position to meet face to face and was ask to join the research team
then I would have no problem filling out a full application. I was ask to do just that
by a group here. My first impressions were not to my liking so I declined.
Good luck on your group, I'll root for you.
