Title: more oil in US
Post by: jikwan on February 28, 2009, 07:46:12 AM
> > > The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April ('08) that only
> scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big.  It was a
> revised report (hadn't been updated since '95) on how much oil was in this

> eastern Montana .... check THIS out:
> > >
> > > The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe
> Bay, and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign
> oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion
> barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel,
> we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5.3 trillion.

Nice to know.  I was almost shot on the day after that report was released.

That is very good news. We now may be able to pay China back.

Not a chance there by the time we are able to extract it because people are forced with another crisis on oil ... It will have been too late and the switch from fossil to alternative will be in place.

Talk about a shame!

Only about 2/3 of oil is used for fuel. The other third is used for plastics, chemicals, pharmacueticals. So it will be needed for centuries to come even after it is finally ended as fuel.

Does the report say if it is oil sands, heavy crude, light crude, or what? I suspect it is mostly in shale or oil sands, like in Canada. An environmental nightmare to mine.
