Title: Disaster Recovery
Post by: jadaro2600 on July 31, 2009, 11:37:32 PM
Technologies available with minimal available resources will prove useful in the event of a disaster ( as would occur in the event of a sort of dissociation type event where help from the outside world would be minimal or non existent ).  By this I mean, an event where total catastrophe may render a civilized area useless.

In this case, I though it may be a good idea to have a thread devoted to technologies and innovations related to disaster recovery.

Though this thread may go nowhere initially, I think that some of the inventions and innovations on this website may prove ideal for minimalistic situations and although there are an abundance of ideas, there is a lack of any connectedness to any of with any sort of applicable circumstance.

For instance:

The joule thief circuit may prove to be useful for someone with very little power on their hands which needs light in order to see for extended duration.

Please post your innovations which may be useful in the event of a disaster or a disconnect from normalcy.

I vote colloidal silver and colloidal gold.

In the event of a disaster, when professional health providers are not always around us, colloidal silver is one of the great tools for water purification and disinfection.

Colloidal gold is good for the old people who have difficulty in moving during a disaster.

I also think we need to think about how to communicate wirelessly during a disaster. Mobile phone will be probably useless.

In theory, walkie-talkie would be more reliable in times of disasters, but walkie-talkie is for short distance communication only.
