Title: "access forbidden due to too much traffic"
Post by: broli on August 11, 2009, 11:12:52 AM
I don't know whether it's just me since there's no time gap in the recent posts. But for the past days I kept getting this message when visiting :

Quoteaccess forbidden due to too much traffic

Access verboten, weil zuviel Traffic gemacht wurde

In very rare occasions I can access the website like I can now but it only takes a few minutes until I get the same error for hours. Stefan please fix this.

I suspect this is because there is too much traffic coming out of the site. The server cannot cope.

If you measure the size of the front page, it is around 200k, and contains almost no real value to most of us. Measure the size of any page and it is around this size. Its crazy. For every 1k of useful messages, the server must send us 200 times more stuff - every time we click on something.

I don't understand why it's so hard to keep a forum up. I doubt it's a bandwidth issue, I bet the database is used for things it's not meant to use like storing images on it. Stefan get yourself a site admin that can solve these problems.

access forbidden due to too much traffic

Access verboten, weil zuviel Traffic gemacht wurde

Your IP address was blocked by my special website
firewall, cause you made too many accesses onto the forum.
E.g. also when a download tool is used to try to download
the forum..

This also happens sometimes if you use the Google Chrome browser
and open up 30 or more tabs with overunity.com
pages...
So don´t open up several overunity.com pages
all at once, otherwise you could get blocked for a few days..

As the forum must make many database accesses for each page
it will put too much stress on the database server otherwise
and that is why the website firewall is used to
block too many accesses in a row from each single
IP address, if you want to abuse the forum.

Regards, Stefan. (admin)

P.S. The website firewall is set to usage like a normal surfer would
click and read the forum pages.
So don´t click too many pages at once in a short time interval, otherwise you could get blocked
by the firewall.

This is to prevent abuse by download tools, cause these would make much too much
traffic and database queries and overload the SQL server.

Normal?  And really, *who* is normal around here  ;) ?

So, the more we read and click the better.
But not too fast, or you get blocked for a few days.
So hurry up but slow down.
Click on a lot but don't click too fast.
And if you read fast, drink 6 beers first and maybe you will be too cross-eyed to read fast so then you won't click too fast and get blocked for several days.
And if you are right-handed, use your left-hand 'cause that will help slow you down too.
But not too slow, 'cause the more clicks the better.
But not too fast, 'cause too many clicks too close together will cause the rotation of the earth to slow meaning a change in the global weather patterns that might lead to the extinction of all life!!!
