It seems the high voltage could also be produced by
a better Joule Thief and then this alufoil is
oxidized to aluminiumoxid, which burns very brightly.
Now put this into a glas bulb and this could be an easy to make
bright light source, cause Aluminiumfoil is very cheap.

hi stefan,
i have done something along the lines you suggested in the past.
i used a circuit that outputs >1000V and i used tungsten (it was at hand) instead of aluminium. it lights nicely and has a beautiful blue corona all around the inside of the bulb.
i would like to see someone do it with aluminium also.
This may have some interesting applications.
Harti,
multiply 25,000 Volts times 20 mA and you will understand why the light is so bright.
