Who was the original inventor of the JTC?
From Wiki,
In the November 1999 issue of Everyday Practical Electronics (EPE) a simple circuit was published by Z. Kaparnik that consists of a transformer-feedback single-transistor switched-mode converter. Due to its simplicity and usefulness the circuit has gained popularity.

I got my first JT circuit design from the Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories from Makezine, and I also used an Instructables tutorial as well. I had nothing to do with the original design of this circuit...far from it. I do believe that the folks in the JT topic research group have made a lot of advances with the original circuit and have taken it to new levels and done some unique and innovative things but we did not invent the JT. (I just wanted to say that for the record)
Also, I was made moderator of the JT topic probably somewhere around page 200 or so. This was so I could manage photo sizes and make requested changes to the many circuit diagrams that had been posted there by that time. I believe at one time, we could always go back and edit our own posts but somewhere back then it changed to where you had like 24 hours or so to do it otherwise it stayed as is. So, any mistakes pointed out after that time could not be corrected.
Thanks, I wish I did have something to do with the JT's invention.
Bill

Big Clives Coined the Phrase "Joule Thief" in 1999 . He was the First to name it . http://www.emanator.demon.co.uk/bigclive/joule.htm
Quote "I originally called this torch the vampire torch because it sucked the last remnants of life from a cell, but then decided to call it a Joule Thief instead because it was a catchy name and played on the fact the unit steals the last bit of energy from a cell. (Joule is a unit of energy) I guess the name has kinda stuck!

Heck, I could just send you one for free if you like. Just a basic JT all ready to go. I can add an led if you want, or you can do that. Just let me know. No money....just free. of course, if you are somewhere in the world where the shipping is going to be prohibitive, we can discuss that. I am in Kentucky, USA.

everything you need to make one is in a CFL bulb ! The wire toroid transistor and resistor . all you need is a cheap soldering pencil and led from radio shack !
I'm selling mine as you see there are a lot of people that just don't solder and it does take a little time and money . PayPal takes a nice hunk also so the profit is nill by the you figure parts ,electricity to solder , gas to drive to the post office (15miles one direction) paypal expenses (nomercy) try and see what all this cost at Radio shack , white leds 2.99 resistor 99 cents toroid , 5 bucks ,transistor 2.00 bucks , wire 6 dollars a roll . it would be a little money involved but its all free in a CFL bulb , save them when they go out !

How do you build a Joule Thief with a CFL bulb? Any diagrams?
Be thee not croule
And sell me thy joule!
O prithee Sir William,
Do send me a billium.
For pay thee I must
On what you entrust.
Yon Gadget unmasking
Directions for asking
From CFL lamp
For cost of a stamp.
His keen ingenuity
Assures continuity :o)
Whose is paternity
In this fair fraternity?
A bastard this baddy,
Or Big Clive the daddy?
Perhaps it's some other...
But who is the mother?
