Title: The angryScientist Joule Thief
Post by: angryScientist on December 04, 2009, 09:14:23 PM
First, I don't want to blow any thing up so I limit the current. E=IR

5mA is not going to melt anything so I'll start with that.

I need to turn on a transistor. I'm going to bias the input of it up to it's turn on threshold. I turn a silicon diode backwards to get a 0.6V voltage drop.

I find the turn on voltage with a potentiometer.

I next take my pickup winding and insert it in between the bias circuit and transistor base. I put the primary between positive and the collector.

The Indicator circuit lights only with a varying voltage. Confirm pickup coil alinement.

I then add my little electron pump circuit to bump up the voltage.

Coil Construction:
High Q coil principals
1) Keep your turns seperate from each other, at least half a wire width.
2) Keep your turns off of the core, at least 1½ wire widths.
3) Keep the coil ends far away from each other.

I take donations if anyone feels the need. ;) My landlord would like it if I paid the rent.

I get 65.5V with a half dead AA.

interesting circuit but wont this blow the transistor base ? It is after all a gate of sorts correct ? . I would love to give you money . If i win you can have some !

It hasn't so far.
I probably should have some kind of over current protection. I would be nice to have something non liner, like a zener, so I could still pick up the small voltages.
I'll have to think about it some more.

I'd like to add more stages of the electron pump and have a large voltage multiplier.

I also have some germanium transistors kicking around. I'd like to be able to exploit a 0.2V potential.

@Angry

Hello Angry , interesting circuit , but i have some questions .

First , i don't see any polarity indication on the schematic for the coils.

Second , what is you end game ? what are you planing on making it do?

I don't mind angry people  :D

@ Angry Scientist,

Nice circuit based on voltage doubler/tripler techniques to increase your volts output. Whilst you can achieve high voltage output with this configuration you are limited with current! ... depending on what you want to do with it of course.

Ha! I let the battery sit for the day, added a 10-turn pot. I'm getting 94.5V unloaded.

Here is the polarity.
I'm not sure what you mean with your second question.

I have loved the voltage multiplier concept ever since learning it. Beautiful, isn't it?

Here is something similar..but not entirely.

What do you mean by electron pump?

@Angryscientist
I built the exact same circuit a while ago and it seems to work pretty well but there are limitations. At higher voltages/input current the reverse voltage from the cap/inductance will blow your transistor in this respect the standard JT with a blocking diode is more robust. As well timing is more of a factor, if the cap value is incorrect it can mess with the circuit timing. This circuit does show some interesting effects which depend on the type of transistor used but at larger power inputs things go terribly wrong, lol.

Thanks allcanadian,
I can see how you would be correct. I'll see what I can do to correct this circuit, if possible. Thanks for your experience. We all want a perfected circuit, don't we?

QuoteWhat do you mean by electron pump?
It's the basis for a voltage multiplier. It is a pump. The capacitor acts like a diaphragm or piston, first pulling then pushing the 'electron fluid' through the check valves.

I built this circuit a while back using Multiplier . It put so many volts and sprutious radiation out it produces Television interference thru out the entire house I called it a TV disruptor ! runs from 1.2 volts and has an elaborate tank circuit

i have a thred i started almost 1.5 years ago ....

thank you ...

and out put on 1 single pulse is 1900 volts....

la de da....

ist!

oooo yea  mine has a push button ...  lol i have PRIVATE MESSAGES GONING BACK MANY YEARS  CONFIRMING ... MY WORK ....

YES YES....   from members that are well respected here on ou ... ; )

IST you got a bug or somthing pal ?I didnt say i invented teh HV Jt ma friend i just built the TV disrupter . I built a tv transmitter in the earl 70's too . they used to sell kits when radio shack was a real radio shack :) now your luck to fin a resistor in one of em . Calm down . It was your idea to ask me to do the experiment ,ok  ? If it wasnt for you i wouold have not have even noticed what i was doing even thought i had already did it 5 monts ago. I just didnt see what i had at the time . And i told you thisis a group effore and NO ONE PERSON will TAKE CREDIT  and IF we win the PRIZE will be SPead out to the contribuitors . I have already gotten request to give some shares to you . this is the Kind of people i deal with . Honest and don't care who gets what and looks out for otehrs . My offer to you for half the shipping is still Valid before the post offices Closes till next year

Right Right Right . Well this one is Continuous and puts out  tesla Hv  and lights CFL tubes with one wire and makes your skin crawl .. Its a kind of stiffer /gadget  . and can transmit energy wireless .

I don't think this would be a good cap charger as i would not be able to watch any TV  nor any one else in a 500 feet  area ;)

Q gadget

may be it has to do with the HUGE RF SHEILD I HAVE SHOWEN....

HUMMM

lol

i made it from  a yoke and mot primaries ... it is called the molcule .. and it makes an eather spinner and a supper strong colpase ... drop a CRYSTAL IN THE CENTER    and go have some fun!

william

any HOW  half of my stuff is still years in advance of where we are public ..

so i will carry on from where we are now .. i will be playing W CORE TODAY

here is a link to the coil i spoke of .. i guess i used a 9VDC BATTERY...

and here is a picture

just for the RE CORD!   I SOLVED MANY TESLAS ...  SO MANY I LOST COUNT!

IMAGINE
so in all the problem solveing i have done ...  i managed to get to the root! and share it PUBLIC.. I WAS THE FIRST EVER TO DO SUCH A THING! : )

my proof facts and tests out date many ... : )

i have many simple tests i did ... A LONG TIME B4 THIS UNIT i have  showen that date back much further ..  all THIS WORK OF MINE  leads to WHERE EVERYONE STANDS TODAY ..

THANK  WHO?

BTW mike was calling me DOC ... years ago now .... hummmmm

@Gadgetmall.Hi Albert.Could you post some more details on how the torroid is wound, layers, wire size and torroid dimentions and what you think is critical in replicating your tv disruptor. Thanks for sharing this design,it looks mean. Many thanks, jonny.

Hi Jonny . It was ahazen coil design if i remember right . remember when hazens was winding all those pretty coils and getting hv from them . Here is the torroid i used and also i used a darlington  and a little ferrite tuning slug . can't remember where i posted how to make it in the JT thread  but it was around the date of My schematic drawing ..

im a lion...  did you hear me roar...  did you see my sights as lights in your sky as they soar... and coinside with  my roar ? ..

BTW i didnt ask for  THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE I DEMANDED IT !!!!!!

thank you !

:D You are the ultimate mad scientist!! lol here and there and everywhere i do believe in your work, which is remarkable I wish i could replicate some of it, but right now I'm away from home and can't do it, i'm using you as guide to replicate some of this tesla effects later on though, but a thing I don't understand is ok hom many amps a AAA battery has? about 6? that's powerful in comparison with and earth battery which is in the milliamp range , so correct me if I'm wrong but we can't get such hv EVER from and earth battery, see I've managed to keep my led's on for 2 years directly no supercaps but using the joule thief, and 2 big ass rods of 4feet and 2" diameter, then again I only get 2, 3v leds on but can't get that neon tube going nor a motor or a 100 watt lightbulb..Am I missing something here?
Cheers
