Hi RR2!I am here in CA(Costa Mesa) in the last three years,"on small waves":pen,paper and net.The first model's building period(see "Related images" at "Stellarotor" site) ,that in Europe,it's over from 2002.Never I was interested in prototypes,patents ...all that ask for time ,money and some restriction about human condition(perception,skepticism,vanity...).It was as a play,game with hard to gain some inward,personal "sounds" regarding some path in the soft.An exercise,if you want.Our life is limited in time,so to go farthest ,we need sometimes a kind of hurry,lose no time,drive into our "inner" space.After 2002 I am in the "on the paper" period,only.Few designs on my web pages?So you have "New Drafts"(155) and "New!New Drafts!"(16)...it's a lot of.Maybe,the problem,as you notice is about my style,an "old" one:minimum of first lines stimulates the imagination,liberty of expression.Everything,all the matters,raison d'etre begins with a contour,silhouette,profile,outline,figure,shape,trait,composition..."the blueprint" and money is other's affaire,business.For me all that ,was a real adventure...now I am back on the beach,thinking that lost time is never found again.Maybe with my designs,only. The main problem of a fluid,flow collector is to engage a maximum imput,that usually "unseen" engaged by the presence of the dragging shape.We can mesure the efficiency of the "new" (proposed) vs. "old"( standard) windmill,with the help of a comparative(flux drag 'weighting' balance ) method.Mathematics is no more accurate than the matter-of- fact:a blade in a flow can be optimized using the method of venetian blinds,or if you want overlapping feathers.If you remove the "open windows"(blinds,feathers),you have just the fit lenght of the blade for a certain flow.This signifies no mathematics,but involves that we can'not see,all kinds of fluidic interactions.Remind the primitive people with a feather in their nose: it's a find out wind /smell path.So simple,so operative.All the Bests!/Alex

These persian VAWT designs,were of two kinds:full in the wind (drag type sail boat),and half in the wind (drag type,with a wall that blocks a half side of the entrance for the wind).

Under the best of circumstances,a drag type VAWT,can be one really "full in the wind"(so to use the maximum potential flow of the fluidic medium),but apparently "half in a wind"(we need an "equivalent wall effect").
This captivating "wall effect" problem can be imagined as self switching surface,between two extreme values ,face to the flow.
As a common description ,we can have a self-flapping surface in the wind.
The starting point image and then idea,is the bird's feather movement.
