Title: oil spill idea
Post by: overtaker on June 07, 2010, 06:22:44 PM
What do you think about using Liquid Nitrogen to stop the leak?
Possibly sending several thin canasters of Liquid Nitrogen and oxygen DEEP into the well with a mechanism to break the canasters. Would it freeze the oil long enough to follow up with heavy mud and a cap?  Would it shatter the pipe?  I know it is a hair brained idea but what do you think?

Thanks   :)

I am in communications with BP and I will pass your idea in your name to them as well.
But the smaller doses are better so it possibly make the oil more into an oil ice cream slug could have possibilities. but to much and it will fracture the pipe line IMO. Think of freezing water in your house and this could have a similar effect. It would have to be inserted by a guide to keep it away from the walls of the pipe.  I do agree it might help with the top fill method.

Alan

PS the Congressman's office put me in touch with BP today.

smash the pipe with a hydraulic ram so it flattens out and stops it, i call it the KGH effect

Incredible that someone here will open a thread on that question. Just yesterday I went on BPs web site and sent them an idea.

Basically, all these ideas are stupid, except mine. ha ha ha

What they need to do immediately is to stop the oil, not from leaking out that pipe at 5000 psi, which is a loosing proposition, but to stop the oil from escaping a sort of sarcophagi from which they can then pump the oil up while they drill those two wells. Top hats won't work. They need to quickly put a dome around the whole area and high strength Gortex type material is available immediately and can be made very quickly into such a system.

I put a diagram here;

Just click on the jpg file.

@All

That idea of creating an frozen oil plug until concrete
can set is a good one. This is used to install water line
taps in copper pipes.

My idea was to use the existing containment structure
that didn't work, but to add electric "seal heaters" to
it to melt the methane gas hydrates. I mean it worked
for the space shuttle. Why fix something when one
can just add seal heaters to it?

I don't want to be identified with hydrocarbon fuel manufactures
as I expect these type of problem are associated  with a systems
on it's last legs. Sure has been a lot of problems lately. I hope BP
share holders are having a warm fuzzy feeling about the future.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Alan,  you pretty much have the jest of my plan.  I was hoping those much brighter than I would improve on it.
All comments welcome.

Thanks

I like the "freezeplug" idea, but what about the oil left on the water?

Anyone have an oil tanker?  Seriously!  There is Black Gold out there floating on the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.  Take a oil tanker out there with a big ass pump.  Slurp the oil off the surface of the water, and pump it into a holding tank in the tanker.  Give it some time to settle, and the water will go to the bottom, oil to the top.  Pump the water out of the tank, and your left with a holding tank with crude oil in it.  Free Crude Oil!  Take the oil and pump it to another holding tank, and then fill the first one up again with what you slurp up off the surface.  Repeat until the boat is full of oil...

This wouldn't work for regular production, but in these circumstances, the more boats the merrier...

Its a free-for-all!  LOL!

Freeze  plugs work on water at 100 psi levels, maybe up to 300 psi for the ultra ultra models, but they are no where near the 5000 psi pressure exerted on that 21 inch oil pipe. There is no way in hell that would work. Sorry to say.

The only way they will succeed in stopping the spread of oil, because that is all that they should be concentrating on, is to stay away from the oil pipe and just circle the area so the oil cannot get out of that area, then pump out the oil from there. Otherwise the Gulf of Mexico will become a cesspool. Or maybe I could add the Gulf of Mexico will become the Gulf of Texaco. lol

When a dam is built, they use all the concrete in the world.

Why not fill a giant resevoir with sand, prp compound, etc and
give it a lot of mass - a heavy object to plug this horrible flow?

I feel it killing me from many miles away.

Hello!..It´s disgussting how spill oil is messing our planet..I came with this solution before  this mess get bigger..please send  BP my idea to take action inmediately!
First BP has to rent a fleet of big oil containers..10 to 20 containers should be ok for now...then condition them right away with the most advanced solar panel sistems and oil filters also..send them to sweep the biggest oil spots on surface...help from satellite should find the biggest oil spots...   start to filter and separate oil from water..return water to the ocean..save the oil to further process...I think that energy from those modern solar systemas should be enough to run the engines and motors of filters...should  water returning to the ocean could  be not very clean..but  clean enough to no cause severe damage to our enviroment...now a big oil container represent money..money from this oil sold to refineries would be paid to fisherman that are unemployed..also hire some of them to operate the fleet...double deal!..but the most critical point is to stop oil keep messing more and more..I firmly believe that solar energy should be enough to clean the spill..maybe some powerful wind turbines also so they keep cleaning even in the night..I learned days before that the first plane was succesufully flying with solar energy...why  not to run some motors and engines of oil filters? this clean up solution it will take several months..even more than a year..but the most oil could be collected..keep in mind that until now oil still is spilling!!!!
In the containers also a ecologist first aid team room to clean up and relief all ducks and bird oiled founded.

PS..I apologize for my English!!

The idea is to trap oil, so have an oil tanker sit near the top location
with a vacuum tube running down to the source of where it's polluting.

The oil can be sucked through the tube. Another ship carries the weight
with a high-tension cable.

The precept that a nuclear atomic explosion detonated
on the surface of our planet to save us from this mishap
is abhorrent.

Those few who would realize the antiquity of our planet
and its essential rarity in the cosmos - the qualities
of environment necessary to harbor life - those who would
know to always clean the oil spills.
