Title: spring cam wheel !any ideas if this could work
Post by: helicoil on June 09, 2010, 09:59:15 PM
thinking back to an idea i thought of, that the bessler bearings may be catches, similar to the simple door catches we have today.
this could be the weight that was covered by a handkerchief, as all it would be is a type of tube with 2 balls at each end and a spring sitting in between these inside the tube, probably could use the same type of shaft,  to what looks like, a spinning top on the toys page, this could be the ends that sit against the springs in the tubes, the tops should really be bearings.
what if these spring-ed bearings ran on a guide as in MT 124,
with one placed on each side of the inner rim of the wheel!
the bearings would try to push outwards on each side of the wheel of the wheel
if the wheel was slightly angled ( thicker at the bottom compared to the top).
this creates a cam type of effect, but does not cause continual rotation.
the cams on the MT 124  guide/ring design could possibly counteract the resistance caused due to the wheel being angled,  due to the springs  trying to push outwards on these guides which are also part of the wheel.
the other designs in the Mt124 drawing  page looks like the inner section of the wheel with warped angled boards , not sure if  these  bearings would  either hit or push on these.
