The VGate design is interesting indeed someone has said to try and force the stator magnet up by placing something on the wheel to make it raise up very great idea but also breaks the wheel a bit I think it may work but... I would like to give you what I think is a revision to that design.
All who have been here remember all the different talks about levers and how they provide more lift with less work I believe instead of something on the wheel breaking it and lifting it there should be something that triggers a lever to lift the magnet because it would require much less torque to do such a thing so a pole on the rotor uses the mechanical advantage of a lever to provide enough lift to make it past the gate viola we have the start of reinventing the wheel if someone still has a VGate they would like to play with give it a shot remember you can always move the fulcrum and adjust the length to get a lift from next to nothing the near flap of a butterfly wing so to speak can make the difference ...
Time to get out them old VGATES and throw them on the bench we are men and men love to put stuff other then there asses on benches! muahahaha
