This thread has been started with the intention of using the information given in the article at http://www.physorg.com/news122655117.html in order to start a discussion on the possibility of knowledgeable users on this site to come together and try to figure out an easy way to replicate this aluminum-rich alloy to produce hydrogen using readily available ingredients and materials available to all.
I am not a chemist and do not know if this is even possible to accomplish as a group here on this site without degenerating into a messed up and confusing mess but here goes....can anyone validate this recipe?

posible? sure is. ecconomic no. this is an old idea, the problem with it is the cost. have you priced aluminum?
last time i did scrap aluminum ran as much as 2000 bucks a ton and the h2 it made would have the energy of 350
litres of gasoline. its just a way to store electricity and not a good one.
3H2O + 2AL > 2ALO3 + 3H2
the reaction is not hard to do, but me i would sell the aluminum buy gas and take a trip to Las Vegas with the profit.
