Title: Instand steam no electricity
Post by: Cherryman on October 18, 2010, 03:17:04 PM
Hi , i find this video.

They make instant steam out of a a mixture of mainly water and some alcohol, with a solid state catalyst.

They are not telling what the catalyst is, but i think something simple because they already imaged supermarket products with it.

But imagine instant steam , its instant power!

Anyone know anything more about this?

Where can I get me one of those!

"Half the temperature of a blowtorch"!?

I wonder if the principle is borrowed from silver/peroxide rockets.....sure be an easy way to boost their stock price!

If they did and got caught, that'd be one 'Bombardier Beetle' of a financial crapstorm....

I found the company was expecting to market those devices around 2009..

A find another interview he also say some peroxide is involved. Also states it is very cheap !!

LOL....I knew it!  Notice the very small amount of liquid in the bottle and at 2:39 in the video we hear the telltale hiss of further steam release.  No wonder he said "it's always risky doing them live".

I've no doubt the tech is nearing viability for specialized professional use, but is risky, and more expensive than he made it sound.

This seems little more than a grab at a higher stock price, which, apparently succeeded.

Folks,  I found the patent, and on its pages 12-13 the catalyst is discussed.

The firm is  http://www.oxfordcatalysts.com/

Two patents:
http://v3.espacenet.com/searchResults?DB=EPODOC&submitted=true&locale=en_EP&query=Oxford+Catalysts&ST=singleline&compact=false

And I mean the first one on page 12 about the catalyst:
Steam production  WO2009013514
http://v3.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/originalDocument?FT=D&date=20090129&DB=EPODOC&locale=en_EP&CC=WO&NR=2009013514A1&KC=A1

And their second patent (application) seems to deal with only catalysts, for the process...
see US application 2010168259  link is here

Gyula

EDIT: here is another

Good find Gyula,

I'm no chemist but i did read Carbide in those patents. Here in the Netherlands there is an "old" folklore shooting lids of milk-cans with Carbide and water..

Calcium carbide produces acetylene in the presence of water.....hmmm....maybe they'll be adding a squeeze bottle acetylene torch to their product line soon?

It seems doubtful their instant steam product will become available to the general public anytime soon.

But who knows these days....

According to the patent, they use hydrogen peroxide and methyl alcohol. Just mix some good 65% hydrogen peroxide with 30% methyl alcohol and pass it over a platinum catalyst and FIRE FIRE FIRE!@

Silver would be more economically viable.  But yeah, what can't one do with platinum!

I'll be impressed when they produce a nano gold/palladium/quartz matrix catalyst....then run good old fashioned Aether through it.

Presto, instant propulsion!
