Title: Flyback - Expected current draw ?
Post by: penno64 on October 31, 2010, 01:25:49 AM
Hi all,

I am looking for some help/advice.

I put together a small circuit to power up a Flyback using an MJE13009.

In the process of trying to establish which pins are the PRIMARY and FEEDBACK coils, I found that if
I momentarily make the feedback coil, the flyback continues to generate a small spark for approx
6v and 35mA for a while after I had momentarily connect it.

The moment I connect the feedback, the current draw is substantial, around 500mA to 1A.

I am not even sure that I have got the Primary / Feedback coils as they should be, but I do not
want to undo anything yet.

This started because I wanted to generate a spark gap and use this for toying in Kapanadze stuff.

I tried first to wind 8 turn feedback and 25 turn primary and use 2N3055 but they kept burning out.
I have left these winding sitting unconnected. When I went looking for a better circuit, I landed back in Kapanadze thread and found a link to website with good flyback info.

What should one expect the current draw to be for a flyback. ?
