I believe with enough current you can make any of these flux switchers to work. Whether OU can be achieved with this setup I'm still not sure.

I think you are right I didn't have a way to see how the B-EMF from the collapsing coil will impede the current loop. Maybe split the toroid into arcs but only have the pickup coil on the top and leave the bottom pickup coil off?
