They have developed a technique to make a stable polyploidy in plants.
What they are doing is essentially making plants evolve. What would take nature millions of years to do they are doing in a few months.
So what?? Well they can make oil producing plants produce more oil, require less water, live in acidic soils, even live in salt water!
This isnt genetic engineering.  This is evolution! and it isnt random, They can make the plant evolve how they want. 
One of their aims is to make more efficient oil producing plants.


Sorry for all those God Fearing ppl who don't believe in evolution :)
