My guess is it will take about 60 to 80 years to get to market. Mainly because they first need to sell all the panels they make to power companies, so they can sell you the power! The power companies will simply just buy up all they can manufacture using the money you already give them for power.

I must say this is not the first time that I have heard of new solar technology, I am sure that other members have also heard similar stories over the years and still we wait for more efficient solar panel 
My own solar panel produces 221W on a nice sunny day it is just about enough of what I need, and the rest of the time I need to run the generator as I am not connected to the mains power.
Anyway it's difficult to make a enough power when it is cloudy without covering the whole boat in solar panels.
