    Plants are the original solar collectors.  For some odd reason  we prefer to make our solar collectors out of sand.  Go figure.  Water absorbs uv as well as ir into it's intrinsic energy.  Picture if you will water vapor circulating inside a low pressure tube.  The water vapor stays water vapor because the tube is held under vacuum conditions allowing molecular freedom of movement which keeps the latent heat probelms at bay.  (The freedom of movement inside a sand crystal is very low so you get a hot rock which has a hell of a time heating up in the first place because it is shiny whereas water vapor is transparent)   As the uv photons are absorbed by the watervapor we  get the products of ionization.   Permanent magnets are employed to move the cold plasma from the point of origin to point of use where the plasma condenses back into heated gas.  To further enhance the plasma formation a pulsed polidial field is employed to set the free electrons in motion around the ionized atoms.  This results in a magnetically self confining plasma.  These pieces of ball lightning can then be transported and stored for end user transformation back into heated gas.

Also plants convert co2 into oxygen.
Some plants are better than others.These "preferred" plants,are hardy,low maintenance,live on little support,and will be used in space for long trips as an oxygen supply.This will be our future.Eventually the climate (politics) will become space friendly.Europe,Germany,Russia,USA.have some extremely intelligent people.I am too old to see a Mars,human landing,but a lot of you reading this are NOT.Remember ,, When you are in Earth Orbit,in a habitual vehicle,you are half way to anywhere in the solar system.The poor and the homeless,will be with us forever.This is a true fact,and a million,billion,pounds,Euros,dollars,,will NEVER change human nature.
European and American,ingenuity has no limits.

that is exactly where the idea stemmed from. the cyanobacteria apparently are extremely efficient at this, which is why i suggested it earlier. in addition, they thrive with only light and water, no soil or any of that other stuff associated with farming
