What other waves are we worried about?  Gama? My ex wifes eyes when I came home late?  ;]

Maybe if things get real bad here on this electron called Earth, these may come in handy.

I will look further into things that are commercially available, as there are cameras and software, cards that glow in beams of radiation. 

I think we should look at some of the devices we work on just to be safe. Jimboot was getting headaches,nausea from an Ossie motor. 

If we can build most of what we need cheaply, then everyone should have one.

While it wouldn't be quick or simple isn't photographic film effected by xrays?  Not just xray type like dentists use but regular old camera film will show effects from xrays I believe.

film would be cheap,however a meter or alarm or something real time, so when we're playing this type of "Event"
will be noticed immediatly !

Here is a guy that shows how to get a photo diode to detect xrays/gamma rays by coating the face of the diode with a chemical that emits light when it encounters these rays, and the diode reacts to the light. It shows to even fully cover the photo diode so outside light does not com into play.  Its not a complete detection device, but I found it interesting.

If you break open a TV picture tune and get the phosphor screen out of it, will that glow when hit with gamma radiation? If so could you replace the zinc with some of that material?
