The Aptera chassis could support two in wheel induction motors each with a ReGenX magnet booster in tandem towards the center for balance rather than Thane's lopsided scooter design. This setup should run itself at highway speed.

Powering a basket cart yoked to a center post would supply the most test data running it around in circles systematically. This would require a transmission. He just has a rubber bushing spinning the scooter wheel for show!

Thane is a great experimenter and lecturer but he may not be a genius at automotive engineering!

A variable pitch propeller would couple smoothly with the critical speed requirement, either air or water. The prop pitch clutching would permit the Induction motor to slip up to critical RPM to sustain "Lenz Propulsion".
