I tried a few things.... (falstad sim)
but adding other capacitance around the diodes or to a ground to simulate capacitance in the wires does not help?[/size]

I don't recomend using a virtual environment to test out certain circuit like:Av plug,ferrite and etc.

But i did create something similar and simplified 1 wire flash circuit powered by 1x AAA battery few years back as posted in my youtube channel :Sanjev21

съём с резонансного контура не нарушая его. типа как у калабухова только проще
Нужен токовый контур и качер. Контур 400 кГц качер 4 МГц. Ток в контуре 250 вольт и около 12 ампер. Настройка на биение частот как в видео. Можно делать на сердечнике.
