I've not tried the Maplin rods but I very much doubt they are barium / vintage stock. Scrap vintage TV's in the Western World are like hen's teeth, so the Eastern Bloc countries are likely to be the best source, especially ferrites from ex millitary kit. Its interesting that most of the claimed self-runners come from the Eastern Bloc. I would certainly start experimenting again if I could source some suitable barium ferrites, as I'm convinced that without the right fuel material, experiments will prove fruitless.

Yes indeed there are probally a lot of rods claimed to be Barium but in fact are fake.
Is there some kind of test..  to verify the Barium compound?
I hope not to difficult... due spending lots of experimenting time for nothing.

Maybe Wesley knows a simple method?

Morning apecore. From memory there is a hardness test using the Mohs scale. From my understanding barium ferrites should test harder than modern ferrites. Hopefully, Wesley may also have some information on where barium ferrites can be sourced cheaply. I recall Bedini saying that barium ferrites have special properties but are very difficult to source. However, this may have been because I read somewhere that products containing barium are restricted for import into the USA.

Barium scan coil formers is what your serching for ? I bet most of it is in land fill sites or ground up and used for chem trail
dumping in the west you probably have a good bit dumped in your garden  any way the place to get it from is

Hello to all

I'd like to ask Tinsel Koala about the Tesla's coils top capacitor plate. Why does it need to be connected galvanically to the Tesla coil? Even if we let it there at the top of the coil, free without any connection, the coil itself increases its capacity and the job is done (tuning) without any connection. Is there any problem with this approach?
More precisely, i push the capacitor plate to the internal space of the tube as deep as it needs so to be tuned correctly. Do i miss something?

Is there anyone here who sees a difference on his Katcher's operation when an earth ground is attached at his Transistor's Emmiter leg? 

In addition. Is anyone here who managed an oscillation with his katcher at the right frequency in terms of wire length? I have a coil 0f about  148m. This is the 1/4 of the wire-length which corresponds to 500KHz. Katcher oscillates it at 1MHz. When i try to take it down to 500KHz by connecting a cap plate at its top, then current consumption goes crazy up. Why is that. Is anyone experiences the same?
