Suppose I have a 50 hz wave form, which is quite slow in reality

Now suppose I make a lock circuit at the zero crossing node
And I chop it up with pulse shorting down to zero on both
Pos and negative wave form cycles, now what have I done
If I turn off just before each pulse and back on

What have I made ANY ONE ?
