You sure that plastic tape is so harmful for coil? because akula and ruslan have also their kacer wrapped in plastic tape and seems to have no issue with that.
The plastic tube which coil are winded on have not a similar influence on coil Q factor? it is from plastic also. 
As a fact I have a layer of plastic tape underneath coil also for turns not to slip and stay in place. It is also harmful ?

If I'm understanding correctly, the spacing is good because it reduces inter-winding capacitance, allowing you to operate at a much high frequency.  Higher frequency equates to higher energy density--infrared light versus ultra violet light.

By applying tape, you have added a dielectric which increases capacitance--just the opposite of what you are striving for.  This is why the velocity factor of uninsulated wire is much higher (closer to the speed of light) than insulated wire.

Verpies will correct me if I'm wrong here.  You want the lowest dielectric material between the conductors as possible, with air being about as good as you can get.  Recall Tesla said himself these coils are more of an art than they are a science.

Erfinder has a unique take on this specific subject.  His expressions to me are that capacitance and inductance are really one and the same.  If you think about the magnetic flux circulating around a wire, then coil this wire so the adjacent fluxes are now colliding into each other, you have the source of capacitance as well as inductance.  So it is almost needless to use both terms.  Just think in terms of high or low inductance.  Tesla simply used the term capacity; exactly what you are after.

Been a long day at work today, so please forgive me if what I stated seems all screwed up.  It makes sense to me and I'm sure if you ponder it long enough it will begin to make sense to you as well.

That is two layers PCB becoming capacitor when external plate is being touched for the current which is trying to go into ground near Tesla coil.

P.S. Having unusual Easter here - working in the lab with Kapanadze replication attempt. :-)
