Square Wave using 25Mhz Crystal oscillator

but its pretty old stuff, do you know a simple circuit that can generate a clean square wave using 25 Mhz crystal oscillator?


I want to test 25 Mhz on a MEG, I have setup-ed few circuit using 555 timer, but I want to also try using higher oscillator.


Until I get all the stuffs I ordered, I want to learn how to work with crystal timer, I believe now the higher the frequency the higher the output the MEG will do and I read that  magnetite can handle more then 1000 Mhz, so I believe testing 25 Mhz is enough :)

You feed in a xtal controlled base frequency and a synthesizer PLL
phase locked loop locks onto a multiple of it, the multiple number is set
with software. You get the high frequency out.


Any electronic chain can sell you a metal encased "packaged oscillator" if you
just want exactly that frequency. Just feed it 5VDC and decouple it
with a filter capacitor. Above like 50Mhz you will almost have to go with a
PLL VCO though. Some company sells a packaged oscillator that has an AC vco
with a control voltage to change frequency very approximately.

You can go buy one of these:

or similar from Digikey for less than $2.00 each.  If you want to work with through hole parts, there are similar devices available for less than $5.00 each.  The rise and fall times will be less than 4ns.  If you want faster rise and fall times then you can buffer the device with a Schmitt trigger gate that has a faster rise and fall time.  Just beware that the squarer that you make the signal the better your layout will need to be, and the better your probing and test equipment will need to be in order to see the actual signals without a lot of distortion.
