Hi tesla2. With regard to this statement...

I'm not sure exactly what was known about gravity in Galileo's era, but measurements made over time with an accelerometer should indicate a gradual change in gravitational effect inside the spaceship as the distance from the sun increases. Not to appear contrary but that seemed like an obvious 'loose end'.
