Electric Car Generates 680,000 WATTS!!!

It was probably a "dumb" motor from the "old days."  A big motor like that is almost a short circuit when it starts up.  Hence starting a long time ago (I think in the 1970s) they had MOSFET-based motor controllers that would chop the voltage feed to the motor at start-up to slowly ease it up to operational speed without causing a local brown-out.

I would assume a 900-horsepower modern motor that does not run at an insanely high speed would still be a big heavy beast, much too big for a car.

to hit 217 MPH you would most definitely need that much HP ..like I said the Germans don't mess around.

So are you saying that Burt Munro's 1920 Indian had 920 hp then?  He was able to go 205.67 mph using under 1,000 cc's. (1967)

I am just saying this is a lot (if it is true ) of unusable hp for a car like that.  To draw that much power, the wires to the motor would have to be as thick as your arm.
