If one has a device that is so badly designed that it cuts out at 1.4V, and that device has a relatively low drain, then this device can provide about a 5X - 6X gain in battery life for that device.  I do not know of any such devices.  The vast majority of poorly designed devices drop out around 1.2V where roughly 40% of the battery life remains, not 88% as at 1.4V.  In those devices about a 2X gain can be had.  Most devices these days will run a battery down to 1.1V where only about 15-20% life remains against a 0.8V drop out.  Assuming that the circuitry is 100% efficient ( which it isn't ) you would get 1.0/0.85 - 1.0/0.8 or 17% - 25% more life out of the battery.  If their converters are 90% efficient, then you get 0.9/0.85 - 0.9/0.8 or 5% to 11% more life.
