Greetings, I am not a chemist but I am a fabricator. I would like to fabricate and test a small version of the above battery and I need some guidance. I am using white vinegar as a binder to place active material on paper. Electrodes can be aluminum, copper, carbon, or graphite.
Size is not important. I am using a hand crank PMA to charge the test. What kind of fertilizer is used? Thanks for any help received.

Basically I am searching for something that works, is low cost, and safe. Suggestions welcome.

We need to get closer to the source and ask:

Fertiliser is an oxidising agent. I am particularly interested in Re-Ox batteries, electrolyte flow batteries. It would be useful to know if there is any overlap.

Hi, thanks for the info. I ordered some  urea, should be here in few weeks. I noticed the bare areas of the aluminum anode and cathode are shorting out when I apply the electrolyte and is increasing the discharge rate. Finding a method to stop that condition should improve test results. Finding a suitable low cost method to bind the active material to aluminum is another problem. I am not sure if a battery or superCap structure will have better result. I understand it is all about increased surface area for best results. Thanks again.

thanks for starting this topic ,I know you are a builder and its good to see you experiment here
Stefan has experimented with Batteries and I believe he did work with Aluminum ,perhaps he will clarify that  ?
I will ask him ...also will be discussing Funding for experimenters here .

also we have members who may be able to shed some light on this and  perhaps even setup a discussion at
Stanford.

I will call Stanford tomorrow to see ?

always loved your tireless dedication to open source  testing of your ideas !!

lets see if we can get this one in gear !![turning waste into a household resource. .... Win Win !

much respect and gratitude
