Well, I don't know about the magnetic separation... but air is mostly nitrogen anyhow so separation is not even necessary for a TEA laser to work.

are you trying to make a phaser beam weapon ?  We played with something like that at uni in the late 70s , you need two for that and piggyback the
the HV charge on  the ionised gas surrounding the beams. Hay whats it like out there with all those psyco cops we see on youtube and TV over here ? ;D ;D
