Simple answer:
Everything depends from the market.

equipment was purchased for  1 million dollars when new.
Organization made income  of 10 million dollars and switched to another experiment.
They sold  equipment for 200 dollars as there was no buyers.
Organization  lost 1 million -200  dollars.
Organization may have a rights to recover in tax money 1 million - 200 dollars.
Organization  must spend  left over 9 millions +200 dollars on  anything  just to  make balance =0
they can buy equipment , pay vacation to employees in luxury Island.. build another lab.. and spend in restaurants, hotels,
Buy cars, spend on toilet paper.


The new buyer  payed $200 and than  he resold  pieces of this equipment  or just its parts for 150 thousands dollars .
But he must pay  sales tax. 8.875% from 200 dollars purchase price.
Buyer acting now as resaler must collect for our government  8.875%  tax from 150 thousand dollars from  the buyer who bought from him.
and than he must send this collected tax money to government.

Now he has a choice to  pay tax from  net income or buy equipment for  150 thousands - 200 dollars + shipping and  handling.
From now on - he can not stop buying or he will be paying tax from net income.
He is in trap like all of us the Americans.
We can't stop buying.
Our wealth is growing and we pay no taxes .
It is not important how wealthy is the company or organization or entity
if at the end of tax period  balance of income vs  expenses is ZERO
- we pay no taxes.
And if the owner doesn't pay himself salary than he may  qualify for unemployment benefits or for government social  program.
At the same time his employees can earn $1000 per week.
