It is a very simple thing.

It is not coil based,
it is capacitor and Hv based thing.

With a very small input, like 1W capacitor can emit

so strongly that can scramble volt meter without leads at 2 meter distance
and can fry PC motherboard at same distance as it did.

No coils at all!

True EMP is not harmfull for human body.
But it can break oxide layer in instance,
making iron oxide iron again.

And when that happen, iron is conductive again.
